Home grown – The development of our AfriGrinders started with humble beginnings. Working out of our garage, many late nights were spent, many mistakes were made but we succesfully produced our first pepper grinders in the late 90’s.
Twisting time is back – Lets Twist again
AFRIGRINDERS has Distell to thank for this. The constant pressure to innovate promotional items that could be used to advance the many brands in their portfolio was the catalyst to inspire our creativity.
The Brand Manager at that stage was Willem Keuler who pressurized us for new ideas.
Willem was a true gentleman who pushed our limits to innovate and work with new methods and materials that we were not accustomed to.
It was this constant pressure to produce that led us down the path of using new materials to produce a far better AfriGrinder than the original.

In the early years we manufactured our AfriGrinders out of wood and many different parts. Thanks to the support of the many wineries in the Western Cape we achieved great success. See a snippet HERE of the many wineries that purchased.
Our AfriGrinders soon received an international following and were purchased by numerous visitors and several international wineries.
In promoting their wineries to the international market, local wineries seized the opportunity to brand their AfriGrinders with their favorite label.

Despite selling countless thousands locally and internationally we stopped manufacturing in 2008.
This was partly due to the worldwide financial crisis, other factors and a lucrative deal in the corporate sector.
Our international market was exceeding the local market and we faced challenges. At that stage all our grinders were manufactured out of wood. Exporting required that all manufactured items had to have a Certificate of Compliance that the wood used came from sustainable sources. This was difficult as we used rare woods such as, Imbuia, Parmarfin, American Poplar, etc. We purchased this timber from local suppliers that were unable to provide certification.
This affected our exports to Europe, USA and Australia.
However, development never stopped.
Around 2016 we went back to the drawing board and redesigned the grinders and found a more durable material to
manufacture that complied with international standards.
A short run was produced that was sold internationally.
The grinders were simplified and using new materials a far better grinder was in the making.
Due to other business commitments and the onset of COVID we held off production.
Due to ever increasing demand from past and new clients we have reached the decision to immediately start producing our
New and Improved range of AfriGrinders.
Reflecting on our diverse South African culture we have added our African Style Grinders to our portfolio.
These are by special order only as all are unique castings and hand painted.
